My Humblest Gratitude
I have had many Great coaches in Life that have empowered me positively to better myself mind, body and spirit and to have strong family values.
Amongst them Sifu Samuel Kwok, Pastor Joseph Prince, Pastor Lawrence Lim of New Creation Church, Anthony Robbins, Tom Hopkins, Adam Khoo and many other teachers whose name I failed to mention, remain my fault and mine alone. I thank all these teachers for their passion, patience and teachings that have led me from Glory to Glory and encouraged me to think, analyse and discover what works for me and to take massive positive action, over blind loyalty to what clearly doesn’t.
My Martial Art Journey- 30 years
30 years of martial arts has been a great journey.
I started martial arts as in 1980 when I was 6, at the local tae kwon do school. I obtained my junior black belt and subsequently my senior black belt in WTF Tae Kwon Do under Master Lee Kwang Peng. It was always combative fighting that was practiced back in the day.
Before I left to study overseas, I was an assistant instructor at Ulu Pandan Community Centre for Tae Kwon Do.
In Junior College, I represented my school in 100, 200 metres sprints at a national level. That grounded me to have a good understanding of the scientific principles of cardiovascular, muscular training and explosiveness fast twitch muscle training.
In Australia, I intensively studied the art of Togakure Ninjutsu under Maasaki Hatsumi’s Bujinkan and Muay Thai.
Various street encounters required me to use my martial arts skills to walk away alive as I lived in a rough district. That forged a definative understanding of what works and doesnt in real combat
In 1999, I began my journey in Wing Chun Kungfu under the Yip Chun Lineage. Formally completing the system in 2002-2003, I decided to “test” the system and found my skills lacking in combat realism, aliveness and conditioning- something Bruce Lee identified with. I turned to boxing and muay thai, but remained passionate about Wingchun. I researched and looked into many Wingchun, Wengchun lineages in china and around the world, and had a great appreciation for the diversity of the family of wingchun.
At that same time, I also started my study into the family of internal arts of taiji, hsing-I, yiquan. I chanced upon various impressive videos of Grandmaster Samuel Kwok demonstrating inch breaking on pine boards and chi sao in Hongkong, Seminars with Brazilian Jujitsu Grandmaster Carlson Gracie, with the World Strongest Man and other demonstrations all around the world and was greatly awed, I knew I had found True Ip Man Wing Chun. I seeked out Sifu Kwok was eventually accepted to be his student.
Sifu Kwok is the true embodiment of the traditional word Sifu meaning teacher-father and is truly a master of masters, in a class of his own. Despite his international commitments as a renowned Wing Chun Grandmaster he still makes time to be concerned and support his students in all ways. For that, I am eternally grateful.
We am humbled and honoured to be his representative for Singapore and remain fully committed to transmitting and preserving Traditional Ip Man Wingchun as taught by Grandmaster Samuel Kwok, taught to him by Ip Mans Sons, Grandmaster Ip Chun and Ip Ching. This is the greatest tribute we can offer to Grandmaster Ip Man whose selfless and tireless efforts presented the face of authentic wingchun to the world.
